Oitavo dia de Navaratri: Maha Gowri

Maha Gowri, is the eighth manifestation or aspect of Navadurga. Maha Gauri is worshiped on Durgashtami or Mahashtami, the eighth day during Durga Navratri. Maha Gauri’s pooja 2010 date is October 15th, today. She always is considered as an eight year old girl who is also called Kanya or Kumari.

Maha Gowri was Parvati in her previous birth. In her Parvati form, she observed austere penance to attain Lord Shiva as her husband. Due to her severe penance, she became black and dark in color. Thus, Shiva was astonished to see her. But Lord Shiva was pleased with the intention behind her dark complexion. He, therefore, washed her body with the holy water of Ganga. Then she became bright and shining.
